Folk-pop singer-songwriter, Euan Blackman takes a introspective train ride in “Everybody Lets You Down”, his latest single from the forthcoming EP You Are the Rain. With the light strumming of guitar and echoing vocals, it’s a song with a lot of heart that will have you introspective and mellowed out in no time.
The atmospheric effects provided by the synthesizers make this musical world feel both deep and wide, and, while Blackman’s vocals feel like the barely break a whispered tone, there is a something about the way it mixes with the instrumentation that feel like a deep musical sigh. It’s melancholy and thoughtful while also tapping into feelings of being young and naïve.
“Everybody Lets You Down is about accepting the fact that in some point in your life, you’re gonna be let down, and things will go wrong, but it’s just a fact you have to face up to. The first verse of the song deals with feeling ignored by the music industry and waiting for that email or phone to ring. It’s actually a real privilege being an entirely DIY artist and am excited to see the journey this debut EP takes me.”

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
