DEVeloping Your Creative Career

Much of the world considers art to be from the heart, and business to form in the brain. These seemingly disparate worlds create friction for the creative individual hoping to generate income from their artistic endeavors. DEV classes promote the principles in the forthcoming book by Daniel Warren Hill, DEV: 3 Keys For Success In Your Creative Career, guiding attendees on the journey of identifying their purpose and developing plans & processes to help them achieve their individual success through the principles of discipline, enthusiasm, and vulnerability (or DEV). Regardless of your individual artistic endeavor, this book will provide you with a foundation to focus on what’s really important to you: your happiness, health, and wellbeing; establishing and developing lasting relationships; and to have the opportunity to spend more time doing what you love with measurable growth & results. Whether you take your creative career part-time or full-time, DEV provides a template for achieving your own work-life-play balance through Hill’s personally relatable experiences as a parent, musician, and entrepreneur with a diverse range of artistic and business interests.

Daniel Warren Hill is an American Musician, Media Developer, and Entrepreneur. He is best known as the frontman for Washington DC area Alternative Rock band YellowTieGuy; owner/publisher of music news and entertainment outlet Alchemical Records; co-founder of the diverse and inclusive musician empowerment organization, Capitol Groove Collective; and Advisory Board Member of DMV Music Alliance. Inspired to show his daughters that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up, Daniel’s life-long vision has been to set an example of how to achieve creative, financial, and spiritual success by tapping into the value of your own creative outlets and artistic endeavors.

DEV Class: Lesson 1 - DEVeloping Your Intentions

Let’s be realistic. You see success is possible. Examples of success come across your screen daily. You want to achieve success. But is the success you see the kind of success you want? The kind of success you need? What is it that you want this creative career to do for you, and why does that matter? In this 45 minute long virtual class, author and motivational speaker, Daniel Warren Hill will discuss the need for clearly defining your own personal mission statement, the mission statement of the company you are creating for yourself, and how to let that guide you toward setting realistic expectations for growth while balancing other aspects of your personal and professional self.

Attendees will gain a greater understanding of individual success based on fulfilling their purpose throughout their own personal journey. Attendees will receive examples of Individual and Creative Career mission statements and have the opportunity to develop their own with feedback from the host.

DEV Class: Lesson 2 - DEVeloping Your Plan

Knowing what you want is the only way to work backward from your objective and begin to visualize the steps it will take for you to get from where you are now to where you imagine your potential could take you. Having a better understanding of the field in which you would like to earn your Lifetime Achievement Award, how do you now schedule a sustainable routine that encourages good habits progressing you toward your goal? How should you schedule the time between developing your business and developing your craft?

So, if you are after that creative career you will need to work backward from what is important to you? Your time? Your money? How much time can you realistically spend on this every single day if it costs you $0 and earns you $0? How much time can you realistically spend on this every day if it costs you $1+ and earns you $0? What if it earns you $+1 and earns you $-2? In this session with author and motivational speaker, Daniel Warren Hill, you’ll gain perspective on defining your needs whether you are seeking part-time or full-time income from your creative pursuit. You’ll receive tools to help you plan your time and budget your money with realistic expectations toward growth over time, and you’ll leave the session understanding how even if you have a day job with great benefits you can still take something you love and have it pay for itself. Alternatively, for full-time gig workers, you’ll see that it is not unreasonable for you to achieve the balance between independence and the financial sustainability you are seeking.

Attendees will understand what balance actually means by taking a fresh look at priorities in the context of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, healthy relationships, and healthy finances. Participants will receive customizable templates for both DEVeloping Your Schedule and DEVeloping your Finances.
