In the Fall of 2021, Alchemical Records shared the debut single “And We Prepare for Our End” from D.C. based post rock/metal band Day of Departure, an eight minute long odyssey exploring the decline of humanity nearly reaching total self destruction.
Now, with the release of Day of Departure’s self titled full length album, we learn that eight minute odyssey was indeed preparation; preparation for the 10 track epic released by DMV area collective, BraveMusic. Written and produced by Day of Departure, the music is highly atmospheric; with a variety of effects that can be found in nature, reproduced vocally, or through exotic instrumentation. The five-piece band, consisting of Matt Kozar (guitar, keys), Michelle Schrotz (vocals, keys), Trevor Schrotz (drums), Ben Kelly (bass), and Scott Loose (guitar and keys), has yielded what some might consider a rock opera. Day of Departure’s self titled debut album is a beautiful and comprehensive narrative told through Schrotz’ crystalline vocals and cinematic composition and arrangement. Heavy, overdriven guitars contrasted between clear arpeggios and symphonic soundscapes effectively immerse listeners into the world and environment the band has created.
Our selection from the album, “Life Prevails,” helps to highlight that Day of Departure does convey hope that humanity can improve, and improve the conditions of our own world.
This is the plane of our new existence / Through chaos we rise / We embrace love and life / To face this eternity / The future is ours

When D.C. venues were ready to reopen after COVID-19, indie pop duo GLOSSER was ready to perform. The two, Riley Fanning and Corbin Sheehan, formed the band pre-COVID out of a shared aesthetic vision and passion for music storytelling.
Their first album *DOWNER* was released in January 2023, however they have decided to release a [__deluxe version__](https://open.spotify.com/album/0KLORhtj3ohV4FtbdjoKu5?si=iNZX9fiZSm2M6V8pRdBkow) exactly one year later containing four new tracks – two remixes, a reimagined song, and a cover – that they are hoping will give it a second life and allow them to continue performing around the area.
The band explains that they have spent many shows opening for touring bands that traveled through D.C. “We made music and then venues started to open again,” Sheehan says. Rather than having the “typical grungy” D.C. band experience, they uniquely went straight to club shows.
