Darcy Doe Dreads the Future in ‘Burn Me Down’

By Jaci Jedrych

A dreamy blend of dark synths and sweet lyrics, Darcy Doe’s single “Burn Me Down” dropped on March 18.

“Burn Me Down” is their debut single, serving as an introduction to the world of music. Their electro-indie-pop music melds known sounds with new perspectives, creating a sound that feels familiar yet fresh. “You’ve never met Darcy Doe before, but they sound familiar, nostalgic in the same way a smell can ignite a memory,” they explain.

“Burn Me Down” is about the inevitable feeling of self-sabotage that comes along when things spiral out of control– the feeling that things need to get worse before they get better. The lyrics do convey, however, a sense of optimism that stays with the singer– “the feelings aren’t your fault,” “I will carry you to the water, I will hold you while we swim,” show self-care, compassion, and hope that sustains the afflicted.
