As someone of Cuban descent who recently graduated from Virginia Tech, it is my absolute joy to announce that Cuban sensation Cimafunk is taking over Blacksburg’s very own Moss Arts Center! Grab a group of friends and get ready for an outdoor dance party featuring Cimafunk’s unique mix of funk, Cuban music, and African rhythm. This young phenom has been working tirelessly to redefine contemporary Cuban music, and by all accounts has already successfully done so. He became a household name in Cuba with his 2018 hit, Me Voy, from his debut album Terapia. He sold out venues all across the island, then hit South by Southwest Music Festival in 2019 and toured through the U.S. and Europe. Billboard named him one of the “Top 10 Latin Artists to Watch”, Rolling Stone lauded his music as “electrifying”, and NPR’s Alt. Latino claimed his rise to stardom as a major marker in the history of contemporary music. Now, a second album co-produced with Grammy-award winning producer Jack Splash and praised by Rolling Stone later, he’s coming to visit Blacksburg, VA.
