Chris Youmans Takes a Stand in “Draw the Line”

Los Angeles-based pop aficionado, Chris Youmans, brings the fourth single from his upcoming Electric Love Connection EP titled “Draw the Line”. Produced by LA-based collaborator and friend, Daniel Bayot, the EP also features support from Hannah Glass on vocals and Aaron Cassou on the art direction.

With a bouncing bass line and atmospheric backing vocals, there’s sense of mystique in the verses that feels like a wandering question. Youmans ruminates about a relationship that seems to be bad news, but an obvious allure keeps him on the hook. As the chorus kicks in, the vocals swell and stand with more confidence showing us the musical moment where the titular line has been drawn in the sand. Where the verse ends on the repetitious question “Are we right?”, the chorus begins with the more definitive “Baby, I know I gotta let you go”.

Beneath the question-and-answer structure embedded in the natural pop hook of the verse/chorus formula, there’s a groove that is utterly danceable. The beat, itself, feels fresh and dynamic while Youmans’ vocals bring a sense of urgency and determination. Towards the end, we get a variant of the chorus where everything except the vocals and drums drop out which works lovely as a final capitulation of the song’s message about standing your ground, making the hard decision, and moving on.

“Draw the Line” is available now on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube.
