Butch Dawson Is Getting Money

The Alchemist

“Butch Dawson has long been at the forefront of Baltimore’s eclectic DIY rap scene,” DJBooth published. With a catchy anthem for Baltimore, West Baltimore model-meets-rapper, Butch Dawson releases a music video for single, “Get Money,” ahead of his first major-label project on Asylum Records (Atlantic/Warner), “Stardust” EP.

“‘Get Money’ was made last year,” said Dawson. “It’s about getting money any way possible and just the perfect montage to get money to. The inspiration came from a Kendrick Lamar cadence on ‘ELEMENT.,’ and I created the beat around my vocals. This song feels like an anthem for Baltimore and reminds me of the late single from Tim Trees called ‘Bankroll.’ It’s a simple beat but creates room for a catchy wordplay.”

This visually appealing music video co-directed by Khufu Najee and Loris Russier begins with a center spotlight on Butch Dawson, and then the viewer is taken on a trip in the back of his car, having conversations, walking around, video chatting, and shopping for clothes, especially items in red. Scattered throughout the video, photographs are shown as if to show memories from the eventful night.

Fans of YTK, Huey Briss, Swavay, and Kendrick Lamar should check out this West Baltimore rapper with experimental energy.
