Bridget Rian Unveils The First Single “why did u lie” From Forthcoming EP, Screaming at The Stars

By Daniel Warren Hill

The latest single by singer-songwriter and Indie Rock artist, Bridget Rian, “why did u lie” from her forthcoming EP Screaming at The Stars, explores feelings of pain and anger surrounding the concept of communication and concealment with those we are supposed to be closest with.

Produced with Paul Moak (Caitlyn Smith, Liz Longley, Goodbye June), “why did u lie” begins with soft dulcet guitar tones and Rian’s breathy vocals as she sets the stage for a growing frustration culminating in distorted, overdriven guitars; musically developing into an anthemic rock track as the narrative shifts from hurt to rage, transitioning from the recognition of lost love into the startling realization that love may have actually been lost some time ago. “Why did u lie” clearly outlines how pretending to be in love for the sake of a relationship is selfish and how, in the end, lying to save face or to avoid conflict will only amplify the insult to injury.

Growing up in Long Island, NY, Rian was encouraged to explore music from an early age and began writing songs at just 11 years old on a guitar gifted to her on her tenth birthday.

“In high school, my choir teacher pulled me aside and showed me badass women singer-songwriters like Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Feist, Ingrid Michaelson, and Sara Bareilles. That was it, my life was changed and that’s when I started to develop my musical taste and become addicted to songwriting,” says Rian.

Having moved to Nashville in 2019 to pursue her career in music, Rian hopes the growth from her 2021 debut EP Talking To Ghosts and tracks like “why did you lie” from her forthcoming EP Screaming at The Stars will be readily apparent; solidifying her unique sounds influenced by classic Americana and Alternative Pop in the minds of listeners.

“With this new batch of songs,” says Rian, “ I hope that I can break down some of those assumptions that you thought you knew about me as a listener. I hope that helps us get closer and build a genuine relationship.”
