“Blueberry Season” is in full swing with the release of the anthemic title track from the forthcoming EP by singer-songwriter and performing artist Cate Tomlinson.
“Blueberry Season is the brutal in-the-moment experience where you just have to feel the bad feelings for a while before you get better,” says Cate. “That’s something writing songs has helped me learn over the past couple years–even when it feels uncomfortable to be low, especially because of what someone else has done to you, the healing process doesn’t work unless you go through the gritty parts.”
The tone of the song is incredibly cinematic; what starts as a intimate piano and vocal combo quickly escalates into something thoroughly dynamic and capable of carrying the weight of the song’s lyrics on a musical level. Subtle flourishes of trilling notes join the heavy kick of the drum, bass, and acoustic guitar on the chorus for a complete sonic experience to back Tomlinson’s vulnerable vocal performance.
Blueberry Season, available later this month, is a 5-song EP that seeks to highlight Cate’s innovation as a songwriter capable of transporting listeners throughout the pop-rock landscape, exploring, not only vulnerability, but also heartache, anger, and self-reflection. The songs tell a series of stories from the artist’s own experiences throughout her late teens and transitioning into her 20s and should resonate strongly with fans of Taylor Swift, Fletcher, Phoebe Bridgers, and DMV artists like Stephanie Mathias.
“Blueberry Season” is available now on major streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Flow-bending artist aSanTIS discusses art, culture, and whether sound can solve the world’s problems in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
My interview with Amy Santis aka aSanTIS began in the most unexpected way. The Maryland-based flow-bending artist and lyrical storyteller came prepared to engage in conversation around questions I had posed – and she also brought one or two of her own thoughtful prompts based on her curiosities around my view of learning.
This practice of taking in her surroundings deeply through observation and inquiry has come naturally to aSanTIS ever since she was a young child. In terms of her early starts in music, she notes that she began as a discerning listener. “Just listening to music from my mom, on the radio, just being a consumer in the world of sound. But I think mainly, my mom has always loved dancing and listening to music, so that was sort of like second nature. We play music at gatherings, we play music in the car, and these songs are sort of like diaries that take us into a specific place.”
