Holly Valance Hit “Kiss Kiss” Remixed by Bklava for 20th Anniversary

UK based producer and DJ, Bklava (also known as Lara Sweeny), celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Holly Valance smash hit “Kiss Kiss” with a brand-new remix and visualizer.

While Valance originally covered the song (originally titled “Şımarık” written by Sezen Aksu and performed by Turkish singer Tarken in 1997) with rewritten lyrics, big pop hooks, and the production mindset of the early 2000’s, Bklava a club music flare that ups the electronic beats into the driver’s seat. The lyrics and the synthesizer melodies take on a more ethereal, ambient role as a colorful backdrop that leaves plenty of space for dancing and grooving.

The visualizer (now available on YouTube) paints the song in psychedelic colors, high contrast lighting, and negative color scales that make the experience otherworldly. Where the original music videos (from Tarken and Valance) feel more pop-oriented with loose narratives, lots of swagger, and choreography breaks, Bklava takes more experimental route. She takes shots of Valance singing and posing from her original music video, puts them through wild filters that range from lo-fi glitch vibes to pure psychedelia.

Overall, the distortive effects applied to the remix and accompanying visuals imbue it with new life and intentions. While both the original and Valance’s cover feel like pop iconography, Bklava manages something very different with her remix that is thoughtful about the song’s roots and feel, but ushers the party forward at full charge.

All versions of “Kiss Kiss” can be found on major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and their accompanying music videos are all available on YouTube. Find this and more excellent music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture Playlist on Spotify and YouTube.
