Bhi Bhiman Gets Existential with New Single “Helpless”

By Charlie Maybee

St. Louis based indie folk musician, Bhi Bhiman, is getting existential with his latest single “Helpless”. Released along with an accompanying music video, this is second single off his forthcoming album and shows the artist at his most personal and vulnerable.

Mixing an acoustic foundation with some synthesized ambience, the song puts forward hopeful vibrations despite its namesake. “Helpless” is a very simple song musically. It’s literally two chords. But within those two chords, there is a spiritual center to the song that I think will resonate with people,” Bhiman says, describing the song as “if Post Malone read Nietzsche”.

The music video has a lot of shadow play as we see silhouettes of Bhiman singing and his guitar. However, there’s nothing dark about the visuals because these shadows are often blown out by the incredible sunshine effects that spread through the video’s digital canvas. “I live on island time” he sings through the chorus giving us a taste of the sunlight’s setting as graphics of beaches, fields, and mountains flash across the screen.

“The new track drives home the fact that we’re living through a remarkably tough, but also contemplative time. And that to be human is to embrace both the profound and surreal, and, above all, to grab moments of joy where you find them and hold on.”

“Helpless” is available on major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. The accompanying music video is also available on YouTube. Find this and more great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture playlist on Spotify and YouTube.
