If you want a track that is the essence of light summer fun, look no further than Beth // James’ newest song, ‘Shake It Out’.
Beth // James is a married indie duo from Austin, Texas. The masterminds, Mikaela and Jordan Burchill, first met at the University of North Texas’s prestigious jazz program, and have since integrated themselves into the Austin music scene, surrounding themselves with like-minded and talented musicians. Their music about “the dog of their dreams, an ill-fated group tattoo, and saved voicemails of a lost loved one”, uses ephemeral details to show their listeners the tiny intricacies of life.
Their latest track, ‘Shake It Out’, is the epitome of quitessential Americana folk pop, akin to long summer drives with the windows down, cold lemonade on a hot day. The video pulls 70’s inspiration, inserting a little bit of groove.
“Lately, we’ve been interested songs that don’t take themselves too seriously so we wanted this one to just be carefree. Pure fun. It’s basically about working all day on emails and constantly being bombarded with screens. The feeling of just wanting to cut loose, hangout, and not think about anything,” the duo says on their song.
Fans of Vance Joy or The Lumineers should check out this track. Find this and other great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture playlist on Spotify and YouTube.
