Ben DeHan, Valoramous, and Listeners Begin A New Chapter in “Woke Up (Valoramous Remix)

By Daniel Warren Hill

Having featured both of these artists on this site in the past, it is incredibly exciting to be sharing this collaborative project between recording artist Ben DeHan and DJ and producer Valoramous. In spite of very different backgrounds, the two come together around “Woke Up” and its themes centered around a commitment to a new way of life in the pursuit of your passion.

For former Warped Tour artist, Ben DeHan, “Woke Up” represents DeHan’s struggle with reintegrating into traditional corporate business models after the dissolution of My American Diary, singing, ” I spent a decade trying to give up on everything I loved. I put my dreams in a bottle and prayed that time would wash away the pain.” Those lyrics struck a chord with Valoramous, a U.S. military service member who wonders how much further on his musical trajectory he would be if he had started producing music sooner. “I spent the first ten years of my career not really pursuing hobbies and interests,” he says. So, I didn’t start DJing and producing music until after I turned 30…I was a full decade into my career when I finally pulled the trigger and said, ‘You know what I’m going to focus 100% on learning how to DJ and learning how to become a record producer, especially Electronic Dance Music,’ and I’ve been at this five years now and it has blossomed into something cool.”

It is pure kismet for these two to find one another. DeHan is located in Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C. where Valoramous was once stationed. Coincidentally, DeHan’s father met his mother while he was stationed in Germany, where Valoramous is presently stationed. It is another example of the small world in which we live and how strong our unseen ties are to one another’s stories.

Both Ben and Valoramous share Blink 182, Angels and Airwaves, and Machine Gun Kelly as influences that still permeate throughout. Sung in a major key, “Woke Up” is reminiscent of a California Indie-Pop sound, and both artists have an appreciation for moving on from the past and moving on to the next chapters of their lives and listeners will easily relate.

“The message behind the lyrics is really unique,” says Valoramous, “It’s talking about moving from one phase to the next. Every time I listen to the original track and while I was creating the remix I was getting more and more into it, so I think there’s definitely something special there.”
