Today, Bay Area indie rock band French Cassettes premiered the music video for their latest single, “Medium Horny” via Flood Magazine. Next week, the band kicks off their U.S. tour dates with a performance at Comet Ping Pong in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
Directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker and actor, Syra McCarthy, the music video explores the concept of “‘happiness capitalism” marketed to guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Lorenzo Scott Huerta dispensed by an alien being; a concept inspired by a recurring dream McCarthy experienced as a child.
Discussing the sound and feel of “Medium Horny,” Lorenzo Scott Huerta stated, “The song started as just finger shapes I liked the look of on my guitar. But truth be told the inspiration is split into 4 of my favorite songwriters. The first verse is Johnny Marr, middle section is Jeff Lynne and Bill Evans, the outro is Elliott Smith. I’ve never heard a full Evans song in my life… I don’t think, but I’ve heard he does ‘chord solos’ and I loved that idea so I wrote a guitar solo of just strummed chords.”
French Cassettes made their East Coast debut this Spring, which included a performance at the New Colossus Festival in New York City. Since the release of their acclaimed sophomore album Rolodex in 2020, the band has continued to win over the hearts of fans and critics alike. Their 2021 single, “Good For It” and 2022 single, “On/Off” (the music video for which featured actor and stunt performer Johnny Knoxville), highlight how the French Cassettes’ strategy of merging memorable tunes with synergistic collaboration appears to be more than effective.
Washington D.C. indie-rock band Moozy provides support for French Cassettes when they perform at Comet Ping Pong on September 27. We promise this is a match made in heaven, but don’t take our word for it; check out the newest Moozy single, “Minnesota Seems Nice.”
“Medium Horny” is available now on major streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Flow-bending artist aSanTIS discusses art, culture, and whether sound can solve the world’s problems in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
My interview with Amy Santis aka aSanTIS began in the most unexpected way. The Maryland-based flow-bending artist and lyrical storyteller came prepared to engage in conversation around questions I had posed – and she also brought one or two of her own thoughtful prompts based on her curiosities around my view of learning.
This practice of taking in her surroundings deeply through observation and inquiry has come naturally to aSanTIS ever since she was a young child. In terms of her early starts in music, she notes that she began as a discerning listener. “Just listening to music from my mom, on the radio, just being a consumer in the world of sound. But I think mainly, my mom has always loved dancing and listening to music, so that was sort of like second nature. We play music at gatherings, we play music in the car, and these songs are sort of like diaries that take us into a specific place.”
