Anica (pronounced “Aniza”) Russo is a Berlin-based international pop artist, songwriter and musician. Her new song “Mirror On The Wall” plays on the classic Disney movie question, “Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” It is a relatable track about the struggles of understanding one’s true identity among outside pressure and expectations.
This rock/pop anthem immediately starts off strong with powerful electric guitar chord progressions and cinematic, fresh production. It is explosive in energy, especially when the chorus hits: “Mirror on the wall, tell me who I am / Sit here like a doll, don’t know how to act / Oh, tragedy, I can’t agree on my identity / Mirror on the wall, who is the real me of them all?” Russo pleads with this mirror to help her make sense of who she really is inside, a struggle that can manifest when we are focused too much on things other than ourselves, losing touch with reality. Sometimes it can even feel as if we are watching things happen to us from the outside, as Russo touches on in the song’s pre-chorus: “Look at me / Passenger seat of my reality / I’m taking the mask off”.
As a newcomer to the artist scene, she has already established her mysterious dark pop sound, which she especially explored during the pandemic. “Mirror On The Wall” carries the message of self-empowerment, something Russo is passionate about, especially as a young musician. She became the ambassador for the German mental health organization Jugend Notmail (Youth in Danger), sending out a message of hope and belonging to her community.

When D.C. venues were ready to reopen after COVID-19, indie pop duo GLOSSER was ready to perform. The two, Riley Fanning and Corbin Sheehan, formed the band pre-COVID out of a shared aesthetic vision and passion for music storytelling.
Their first album *DOWNER* was released in January 2023, however they have decided to release a [__deluxe version__](https://open.spotify.com/album/0KLORhtj3ohV4FtbdjoKu5?si=iNZX9fiZSm2M6V8pRdBkow) exactly one year later containing four new tracks – two remixes, a reimagined song, and a cover – that they are hoping will give it a second life and allow them to continue performing around the area.
The band explains that they have spent many shows opening for touring bands that traveled through D.C. “We made music and then venues started to open again,” Sheehan says. Rather than having the “typical grungy” D.C. band experience, they uniquely went straight to club shows.
