Alexis Gerred and MiG Ayesa are ‘Unbreakable’

By Margaret Adams

Being able to collaborate with your childhood hero is a dream for anyone, but it’s a reality for Alexis Gerred. The UK-based artist has released the music video for his new single, “Unbreakable,” featuring his inspiration, MiG Ayesa. “Unbreakable” was released on March 11 and is accompanied by another track, “Mary Go Round,” a cover originally by The Struts.

Fans might know MiG Ayesa as a West End and Broadway titan who has starred in onstage musical hits such as Rock of Ages, Thriller Live, Annie, We Will Rock You, and more. Gerrad attributes his own inspiration and passion for music to Ayesa – it was when he saw his first musical, We Will Rock You in London’s West End, a musical inspired by Queen, starring Ayesa, a rising star in British Theatre.

“I watched MiG Ayesa take to the stage and his delivery, passion and charisma flipped a switch inside me,” Gerred recalls. “Although I had never even attempted singing a note before, I knew I wanted to emulate him and follow a path that would one day see me up on that stage, too.”

“Unbreakable” is a catchy, powerful anthem about resiliency; it contributes to an emotional and strengthening message without being too melancholic. It is ultimately empowering, with help from the classic electric guitar and both performers’ talented vocal abilities.

“This song is about resilience and determination,” says Gerred. “If I can inspire someone to take charge of their own lives and bounce back from adversity, that’s my goal.”

Fans of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen should check out Alexis Gerred and MiG Ayesa’s new single, “Unbreakable.” The single is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Follow our Alchemical Multigenre Mixdown playlist for more great music featured on the site.

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
