Adam James Reawakens to the Beauty of Life with ‘Sleep at Night’

By Cynthia Gross

Los Angeles-based indie folk artist Adam James teases his upcoming album with a dreamy, nostalgic single “Sleep at Night.” Effervescence radiates from the track and delivers a familiar nostalgia reminiscent of the freedom associated with summer. “Sleep at Night” is powerful because of its subtlety.

Fittingly, the concept for “Sleep at Night” came to Adam in a dream, the night before a cross-country road trip from his home New York to LA. The road-trip ready track, reminiscent of artists like Death Cab for Cutie, carries the magic and melancholy of a piece of art composed in and out of consciousness. Adam credits his partnership with producer Max Allyn for the perfected California-esque sound.

“Sleep at Night” is “an anthem about holding onto your dreams,” explains Adam James. At its core, the song is about new beginnings and the freedom and wonder that come from taking risks and following your heart. On a personal level, “Sleep at Night” represents autonomy for Adam, the first time he is investing in himself as a solo artist free of restrictions after years of extensive performances with other bands.

With a range of eclectic influences including The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Cut Worms, and Nada Surf, Adam James creates a delicate push and pull of energy with his music that draws audiences in and releases them inspired and reawakened to the beauty of life’s journey. Perhaps our dreams when we “Sleep at Night” are actually our deep truths meant to guide us to all we were meant to be.
