A Look Into the Mental Diary of Estella Dawn’s New Single ‘Salt’

By Charlie Maybee

This reading of Alchemical Records content provides a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

Denver based electro pop musician, Estella Dawn, has returned with a brand-new single and lyric video titled “Salt,” which brings fiery synthesizers and drumbeats that are both danceable and retrospective.

There’s a natural sense of frustration that comes through the music and lyrics, expressing how Dawn has become fed up with the world and herself. In writing about the course of these emotions, she writes, “Sometimes you just need to let tears flow and cleanse the things that you can’t control.” It’s clear that this song allows her space to move through and reflect on these feelings.

With a lyric video that has a similar vibe to reading someone’s private journal or diary, this theme of introspection continues as the lyrics suddenly become displayed like unfiltered thoughts on a page. “When the pack is descending and my mind starts spiraling, it feels like all I can do is keep my head down and set one foot in front of the other, just getting through the day in hope of a better tomorrow.”

It’s challenging to maintain positivity in that kind of mental space, but Estella channels that energy into a charged drive into the future and makes sure to leave nothing unsaid when it comes to this virtual journey through the diary of her mind. Nothing comes easy, but it’s still coming.

“We all have our own ways to cope, whether it’s having a cry sitting on the floor of your shower or screaming along to aggressive rock music in the car, buying too many house plants or finding comfort in somebody else’s company, drinking, smoking, eating, the list goes on. We’re all just doing our best.”

“Salt” is available on major streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Follow our Alchemical Weekly YouTube Playlist for more great music featured on the site.
