What’s Up at Alchemical Records

Summer is here, and Alchemical Records is heating things up in Annapolis, Md., on July 9 at the Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge with one of the area’s best and most tenured jam bands, LITZ. Local support provided by Never Ending Fall, Time Columns, The New Retro, and Spencer Joyce & The Record Machine.
On Aug. 8, Alchemical Records will host Baltimore based “electro-acoustic psychedelic world dance” band, TELESMA, at the Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge with local support provided by Timeconsumer, Changre, and The Benchwarmers.
Alchemical Records will return to The Treehouse Lounge in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 9 with a Hip-Hop showcase featuring artists from throughout the greater DMV area, as well as performers traveling from New York, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, and Massachusetts.

In addition to hosting shows in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis, Alchemical Records is gearing up to promote a new single called “Rise” by Baltimore-based metal band Area 52. “Rise” is currently slated for digital release on Sept. 15 in preparation for Area 52’s seven song EP “The Great White,” scheduled to come out Dec. 1. The band will be doing two special advance release parties, the first in New Haven, Conn., on Halloween night, and the second in Baltimore, Md., on Nov. 2.

YellowTieGuy (Waldorf, Md.)

YellowTieGuy is scheduled to continue recording their upcoming full length record “Play on Words” at Belly Acres Studio in Pisgah, Md, on Aug. 15. Though there are still a number of tracks to record before the record is complete, the band hopes to release some new music by year’s end.
YellowTieGuy’s lead vocalist, Daniel Warren Hill, continues to perform solo acoustic shows every Friday at the PF Chang’s at the Dulles Town Center in Sterling, Va. Hill will open for alternative rock band Crooked Crow in Bethesda, Md., at Villain and Saint on July 2.

Spencer Joyce (Purcellville, Va.)

Spencer Joyce is making a transition from Purcellville, Va., to the Annapolis, Md., area in more ways than one. With plans to move to Annapolis later this year, Joyce has taken on work at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md., and is performing at local open mic nights in the area. He will perform at the Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge with LITZ on July 9.
Spencer is making an effort to stay connected to his fanbase in northern Virginia, which includes continuing his monthly residency at Mad Horse Brew Pub Mad Horse Brew Pub in Lovettsville, Va. He can next be found here on June 26.

The Collaterals (Baltimore, Md.)

The Collaterals are on semi-hiatus while various members focus on individual goals. Vocalist Ryan Resnick is spending the bulk of his summer as a camp counselor at a campground in Pennsylvania and doing some writing for an upcoming web-based entertainment show featuring interviews and live performances with bands, and a variety of other features.

Voted Best D.C. Rock Band in 2010 -WUSA 9
Crooked CrowTM formed in 2001, upon the ashes of their previous incarnation, Acoustic Reign. Building themselves a strong following in the Washington DC area as a band with a large repertoire of cover hits—plus a strong pool of original songs—Crooked Crow became a familiar name around town for parties and a rockin’ good time.
During the cover years, the band continued writing original songs and releasing CDs. In 2007, Crooked Crow began to focus primarily on playing their own music at “proper” live music venues.
Their original music is best described as high energy, straight-up rock and roll, featuring obvious classic and Southern rock influences coupled with modern lyric and rhythm stylings. The band’s sound has been compared to bands like R.E.M., Tonic, and Vertical Horizon.
As a popular headlining act at smaller venues around the Washington DC metro area, Crooked Crow is now playing support at DC’s larger venues, including the State Theatre, the Fillmore, and the 9:30 Club. Building a following throughout the Northeast Corridor, the band plays often in Baltimore, Philadelphia, across New Jersey, New York City and Boston. Crooked Crow has also turning their attention to the south, with successful shows in Richmond, VA.
Crooked Crow has opened for and supported many regional and national headliners, including Cowboy Mouth, Sponge, Authority Zero, and Zebrahead. – www.crookedcrow.com
